Summer Formal Dresses

Q: What should I wear to a formal summer wedding?

Let the invitation set the scene, it’ll signal the formality and tip you off to the venue. A breezy midi suits a beach or garden ceremony; a longer gown fits a grand evening reception. Colour is your playground, just leave white and cream to the bride unless she’s said otherwise.

Q: Can I wear black to a summer formal event?

One hundred percent. Black isn’t just a winter thing, it’s crisp, chic and photographs like a dream in golden light, unless a theme or dress code asks you to keep it colourful. Want a summer twist? Pair it with a bright heel, gold jewellery or a raffia clutch and call it done.

Q: What should I wear over a formal dress in summer?

Even in peak summer, coastal evenings and heavy air-con can turn cool, so a light, removable layer is a smart call. A tailored blazer sharpens a structured dress; a fine wrap or shrug drapes over bare shoulders. Match it to your neckline, then slip it off the second the dancing starts.
