Question 1

What do you wear to the Melbourne Cup?

Accepted Answer

Cup Day leans dressed-up and celebratory, but there’s no single rule. A mini, midi or maxi all work, the trick is a length you feel good moving in and a shade that reads well in daylight. Bright spring colours, florals and clean silhouettes are the race-day sweet spot, and a fascinator seals it.

Question 2

Which shoes work for race day?

Accepted Answer

Pretty but practical is the goal, you’ll be on grass for hours. A block heel gives height without sinking into the lawn, while a strappy stiletto suits paving or indoor marquees. Nude and metallic tones lengthen the leg and go with everything. Tuck a flat in your bag for the trip home, trust us.

Question 3

Is black OK for the Melbourne Cup?

Accepted Answer

You can wear it, though Cup Day is really the season for colour, spring brights, pastels and florals feel more in the spirit than head-to-toe black. If black is your comfort zone, lift it with a bold fascinator, coloured heels or statement jewellery so it still reads festive. Save the all-black for a cooler, more formal race day.
