Black Formal Dresses

Q: Are black formal dresses appropriate for black tie events?

Yes. Choose a black dress with the length, fabric and finish expected by the invitation. A floor-length gown is a useful starting point; black alone does not make a dress formal.

Q: What shoes go best with a black formal dress?

Black, metallic or neutral heels can work well. Choose a shape that balances the dress and a heel height you can comfortably wear for the venue and length of the event.

Q: Can you wear a black formal dress to a wedding?

We’ve seen it! So yes, when black suits the couple’s preferences and the stated dress code. Choose the length and fabric for the venue and level of formality, and follow any specific guidance on the invitation.
