A beach dress is the MVP of every holiday suitcase and it never gets enough credit. Throw a cover up dress over your bikini and you're instantly ready for the beach bar or a seafront lunch. A crochet beach dress brings that relaxed, textured energy made for coastal strolls or drinks as the sun dips. Summer beach dresses in lightweight fabrics are your secret weapon when you finally escape British weather for somewhere that actually has a functioning sun. Whether it's a maxi beach dress catching the breeze at a resort dinner or a linen beach dress keeping things polished by the pool, Showpo's beach dress collection has every shade of "I'm on holiday and absolutely not thinking about home" covered.

How to dress for a beach holiday

Packing for a beach holiday separates the pros from the "I brought seven outfits for three days" crowd, and the trick is pieces that multitask. A cotton sundress takes you from hotel breakfast to exploring a coastal village without skipping a beat. A crochet cover up dress layers over swimwear and still passes for a lunch outfit in any beachside taverna. Heading somewhere with a scene, like a beach club in Ibiza or a rooftop terrace overlooking the Amalfi Coast? A summer beach dress in a bold print with strappy sandals handles that shift beautifully.

For boat parties and island-hopping days, maxi beach dresses are the silhouette that works with the wind instead of staging a fight (your future self will be grateful). Add a wide-brim hat, oversized sunnies, and a woven tote and you're operating at full holiday capacity. The less you fuss over it, the better the whole thing looks.

Beach formal dress code 101

Beach formal is black tie's barefoot cousin who relocated to the Mediterranean and never looked back. A beach cocktail dress in a flowing fabric strikes the balance, polished enough for photos, comfortable enough that you're not battling the sea breeze all evening. For beach weddings, whether it's a sunset ceremony in Santorini or a clifftop celebration in the Algarve, a maxi beach dress in soft neutrals or pastels photographs like it was styled for a magazine spread.

Bin the stilettos entirely. Wedges or dressy flat sandals handle sand without the ankle drama, which is more than most heels can claim. Keep jewellery delicate, carry a clutch instead of a tote, and maybe add a floral hair piece if the venue calls for it. Beach formal is about looking elegant while the ocean handles all the backdrop work for you.

FAQs

What should I pack for a beach holiday?

A sundress for daytime, a crochet cover up for poolside and a maxi or midi for evening plans covers nearly every scenario. Add versatile sandals, a hat and a tote and you've packed a full holiday wardrobe without needing to check a bag.

Can I wear a beach dress to a restaurant?

Absolutely. A linen or cotton beach dress in a flattering cut belongs in any beachside restaurant or resort dining room. Switch your flip-flops for something with a strap and you'll look like the whole day was planned when really you just couldn't be bothered to change.

Are beach dresses only for summer holidays?

They shine brightest in the heat, but a beach dress isn't limited to August. A lightweight midi works for late spring getaways and early autumn escapes, and a maxi with a cardigan handles those breezy Mediterranean evenings where the temperature drops after sunset.

Does Showpo have beach dresses in plus sizes? How fast is UK shipping?

UK orders over £150 ship free, and express options are available when the holiday is creeping up faster than expected. Showpo's beach dress collection comes in inclusive sizing because looking brilliant on holiday has absolutely no size requirement. Check the Size Guide before ordering and the Returns Policy keeps things painless if you need a different size. The only decision that should stress you out is beach or pool.
