Question 1

What is a halter top?

Accepted Answer

A halter top is a sleeveless style that fastens behind the neck rather than over the shoulders, usually with a tie, strap or loop, leaving the shoulders, arms and often the upper back bare. That single neckline is the whole look, it lifts the eye up and shows off the collarbones and shoulders. Halters come in every fabric and mood, from a casual crochet or denim one to a slinky satin or sequin style for evening.

Question 2

What bra do you wear with a halter top?

Accepted Answer

This is the number-one halter question, and the honest answer is usually no regular bra. Because the straps go around the neck and the back is often bare, go for a halter-style or convertible bra you can tie at the neck, adhesive stick-on cups, or a bra with a clear or low back. Lots of halter tops come with removable padding built in, so check the label first, and a little fashion tape keeps everything secure if it's backless.

Question 3

How do you tie a halter top?

Accepted Answer

Most halters tie in a simple knot or bow behind the neck, so the trick is getting the tension right: tie it tight enough to support and shape, loose enough to sit comfortably for hours. For a cleaner finish, tuck the loose ends under the tie or let them hang for a bit of movement. If yours is adjustable, set the neckline height first, higher for elegant, lower for a deeper V, then knot.
