What is a Y2K outfit?

Y2K (as in ‘year 2000’) is late-90s and early-2000s fashion, and it’s exactly as fun as you remember. Think low-rise jeans, baby tees, cargo pants, denim minis, halter and asymmetric tops, mesh, velour tracksuits, metallics, and a lot of sparkle and rhinestones. It’s playful, a bit maximalist and unapologetically nostalgic. If it looks like it belongs in an early-2000s music video, it’s Y2K.

How do you make a Y2K outfit?

Start with one hero piece and build the 2000s around it. Low-rise jeans or a denim mini is the classic base, then add a baby tee, a corset or a halter on top. Bring in the details, mesh layers, sparkle, a chunky belt, and the accessories that really make it (tinted sunnies, butterfly clips, a tiny bag). You don’t need it to be authentic vintage either, modern Y2K-inspired pieces get you there faster and fit better. The golden rule: more is more.

Is Y2K still in style?

Very much, it’s been one of the biggest trends of the last few years and it’s not going anywhere yet. Baby tees, cargos, low-rise and mesh are all still everywhere. That said, fashion loves a cycle, so keep an eye out: the 80s are the next decade bubbling up (bold colour, statement shoulders, big-hair energy). For now, though, Y2K is still very much a vibe.

Going to a Y2K theme party?

Then it’s time to fully commit. A Y2K party is your excuse to go big: low-rise and a sparkly crop, a metallic mini, a mesh top over a bandeau, all the rhinestones. Layer on the nostalgia with butterfly clips and a mini bag, and don’t hold back, at a themed party, subtle is the only mistake. You’ll find the whole Y2K edit in sizes 4 to 20 including plus size , the Size Guide sorts your fit, and with same-day dispatch and easy returns , you’ll be party-ready in no time.
