Two-Piece Sets

Q: What types of two-piece sets are there?

More than most people realise, which is half the appeal. There are relaxed lounge and tracksuit sets for slow days and travel; breezy linen and shorts sets for summer; sequin and mesh sets for going out; cosy knit sets for cooler weather; denim sets for everyday; and tailored pants-and-top or skirt sets for work and events. You’ll find them by silhouette too, pants, shorts, skirts and even matching dress sets. Whatever the occasion, there’s a co-ord for it.

Q: Can you wear a two-piece set to a formal event?

For sure, and sometimes it’s the better call, you can move and breathe in a way a fitted dress won’t allow. Fabric is what makes it work: satin, silk and velvet read instantly elegant, so a formal two-piece set holds its own at a wedding or an evening celebration. The bonus is longevity, you can wear the top with jeans and the pants with a cami long after the event. More wear than a one-time formal dress, basically.

Q: Do two-piece sets work as separates?

That’s the secret genius of a co-ord. Because it’s two pieces, you can break the set up and wear each half on its own: the top with jeans or tailored pants, the bottoms with a tank or a knit. One set can quietly become three or four outfits, which makes it far better value than a single dress. Buy the set for the matching moment, keep it for everything the separates go on to do.

Q: Are two-piece sets good for summer?

They’re a summer no-brainer. When it’s too hot to think about outfits, a linen or shorts set is a done deal, cool, coordinated and easy. Crochet and cotton co-ords are made for festivals and holidays (add slides and a woven bag), while a floaty skirt set handles a warm evening. Because the pieces already match, you get a pulled-together look with zero effort, which is exactly what summer dressing should feel like.
