Blue Formal Dresses

Q: Is a blue formal dress appropriate for a black tie event?

It can be, though blue alone won't decide it. For black tie, judge length, fabric and finish, a floor-length gown in satin reads far more formal than a shorter, casual style. Choose for formality first.

Q: Can you wear a light blue formal dress to a wedding?

Yes, usually! Check the couple's dress code, and make sure a very pale blue doesn't read as white in the venue's lighting or photos. If you're unsure, a clear, true blue is the safest choice.

Q: How do I choose between a blue maxi and midi dress?

Let the invitation lead. A maxi leans more formal and dramatic, a midi is easier to move in, and neither is a hard rule. Weigh the dress code (and how much you'll want to dance).
