Black Evening Dresses

Q: Is black ok for a black-tie event?

It can be, but black alone doesn’t make a dress black tie. What matters is the invitation and the dress itself, so reach for a floor-length style with a formal finish, such as a satin or structured gown, and accessorize to match.

Q: What length is best for a black evening dress?

Let the invitation guide you. Floor-length styles suit black tie and formal galas, midis are made for dressy dinners, theater and semi-formal events, and minis work best at cocktail parties. Match the dress code rather than overdressing for it.

Q: How do I choose the right size in a black evening dress?

Take your bust, waist and hip measurements and compare them with our Size Guide . Size options differ between styles, so check each product page for what’s available and any fit notes before you check out.
