Incidental Exercise: The Best Places To Walk & Talk In Sydney

Fact: Gossip increases your heart rate

Sometimes life gets in the way of exercise. Let’s be honest, between getting brunch with my girlfriends and going to F45 training, I know where I’d rather be. However, being social doesn’t mean being sedentary and it shouldn’t be a newsflash to anyone that one of the best ways to keep up good heart health and burn a few extra calories is going for a good old-fashioned walk. Luckily, East Coast livin’ means we’ve got an insane amount of coastal walks that scream weekend plans and good times. So get your smoothie to go, your fave fitness gear and get ready for some fitspo with the gals.

Start your day of adventure by grabbing the ferry from Circular Quay to Manly, if you need to fit in that brunch date first, head to Fika Swedish Kitchen. This 10km walk is a tourists dream, but that doesn’t mean you and your friends can’t admire your city from a different view. This walk incorporates coastal views and bush tracks so you get the best of both worlds.

Bondi to Bronte/Coogee

This iconic walk is one not to be missed and there’s a good reason why it’s buzzing almost everyday. It’s only 6km for those wanting a more brisk walk, however if you’re up for more sea views continue on to Coogee to maximise your exercise time. If the sun is out, head to Coogee Pav for a cheeky cocktail, or Speedos Cafe in Bondi for some damn good soul food.

This 8km power walk offers prime harbour views and includes some great pit-stop spots. Start at Rose Bay ferry wharf and continue on the Hermitage Foreshore Track, if you’re needing a rest break – stop at one of the many hidden beaches for a quick swim. If you’re looking for a good place to enjoy a few sunset drinks, look no further than Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel.

The hike up might be steep, but the view is sure worth it at the end. With Palm Beach so close by, you can enjoy a beach day too. Once at the top there is the famous lighthouse which dates back to the 1800’s and if you hike during the winter you might even be lucky enough to spot a humpback whale.

Barangaroo Reserve

Opened in 2015 – Barangaroo offers a walking track in the heart of the CBD. The best part is, there are so many walking paths with no specific start or finish, so you’re free to wander as you please! Our advice? Pack a picnic and a bottle of bubbly for after. You’ve earned it.
