Yoga-cation: The Best Places In South East Asia To Unwind

Are you planning a trip to Southeast Asia and want to feel rejuvenated and refreshed? Then you should consider a yoga-cation! From Bali to Sri Lanka, Southeast Asian countries are the perfect places to detox thanks to their rainforests, jaw-dropping beaches, and serene atmospheres. Whether you’re travelling solo or with your best friend, there are tons of gorgeous retreats where you can meet like-minded people, relax on the beach between yoga classes and eat delicious, healthy foods. Here are the top picks for a yoga-cation… 🤗🙏

Ubud, Bali

Bali is a regular holiday destination for us Aussies (Bintang singlets and all), as it’s just a six-hour plane ride from Sydney. Most people visit Bali for its stunning beaches, mystical temples and great nightlife. But why not create a different Bali vacation and spend a week unwinding at a yoga retreat? There are tons of yoga retreats in Bali, many of which are set in the jungle and are surrounded by larger-than-life palms, rivers and waterfalls. As with most yoga retreats, there are some places where you can check in for a week and others you can just go to take a single class.

Ko Phangan, Thailand

While many consider Ko Phangan to be the ultimate party island (thanks to its world famous Full Moon Party), if you stay at the north of the island, you can find a complete ‘yoggie’ paradise. The spiritual draw of the island has been enticing yoga-lovers for years. In the north you can find deserted beaches, healthy restaurants and hippie cafes.

Ayurveda, Sri Lanka

The island of Sri Lanka is not as popular as other yoga destinations yet as it’s relatively new on the ‘yoggie’ scene. This means that you can explore a country that is relatively off the beaten track and also find some great deals at the newly opened yoga studios. Sri Lanka is known for its miles of palm-tree lined beaches and sleepy, backwater villages. On the island you can find yoga studios that offer other activities too, such as surfing.

Goa, India

India is the ideal destination for many people wanting to practice yoga and if you’re new to the scene, a great option is to head to Goa in southern India. Most of the yoga retreats are located in north Goa and are open from October to May each year. It’s the perfect place to explore yoga, practice mindfulness and of course, eat some of the delicious Indian vegetarian food that the south is so well known for. Goa is known for its golden beaches, palm-tree lined coves and relaxed atmosphere.
