Bali is a regular holiday destination for us Aussies (Bintang singlets and all), as it’s just a six-hour plane ride from Sydney. Most people visit Bali for its stunning beaches, mystical temples and great nightlife. But why not create a different Bali vacation and spend a week unwinding at a yoga retreat? There are tons of yoga retreats in Bali, many of which are set in the jungle and are surrounded by larger-than-life palms, rivers and waterfalls. As with most yoga retreats, there are some places where you can check in for a week and others you can just go to take a single class.
Ko Phangan, Thailand
While many consider Ko Phangan to be the ultimate party island (thanks to its world famous Full Moon Party), if you stay at the north of the island, you can find a complete ‘yoggie’ paradise. India is the ideal destination for many people wanting to practice yoga and if you’re new to the scene, a great option is to head to Goa in southern India. Most of the yoga retreats are located in north Goa and are open from October to May each year. It’s the perfect place to explore yoga, practice mindfulness and of course, eat some of the delicious Indian vegetarian food that the south is so well known for. Goa is known for its golden beaches, palm-tree lined coves and relaxed atmosphere.
