The Ultimate Wedding Checklist: From ‘Yes’ to ‘I Do’

Your happily ever after starts here 😉

Whoever said weddings are a piece of cake hasn’t planned their dream day yet. There is so much more to it than toasting champagne and showing off your ring, although that’s fun too! To ease your wedding woes, we’ve compiled the ultimate wedding checklist that’ll make your day unforgettable (because we haven’t forgotten a thing).

ULTIMATE WEDDING CHECKLIST

WEDDING CHECKLIST | 12+ MONTHS OUT

You’re engaged!

You said Yes! Although everything seems forever away (or perhaps it’s sooner than you think) it’s time to start ticking a few things off…

Save the date.

Decide on a date and guest list first so you can ensure that the venues and suppliers you want are available. If you have family or friends travelling from afar, send out a save the date so they can organise flights and accommodation.

Choose your bride tribe.

Pick friends you can rely on, who are amazing at event planning and know you inside out. You’ll be asking a lot of these gals over the next few months so let them know in advance how much you appreciate them with a thoughtful gesture along with the big question.

Set a budget.

You might be saving for a house or a lavish honeymoon, or maybe you’ve got the budget to go all out. No matter what your financial situation is like, this step is crucial. Remember, a midweek wedding and getting married off season can cut your costs sometimes by half. Calculate all your expenses and be honest with where you can splurge and where you can save.

DIY or wedding planner?

A good wedding planner will ensure your dream day runs smoothly so you don’t have to stress about the small stuff. Alternatively, you might have some creative friends who can bring their skills to the wedding table to create a more personalised touch.

Decide on your guest list and book your venue.

Whether you’re having an intimate wedding or a lavish one, decide on your guest list before getting your heart set on a venue. Make sure you ask all the big questions like catering options, indoor and outdoor settings and, of course, open bar packages. If accommodation’s on site you’ll need to work out if there is a room available for everyone.

Decide on your photographer, videographer and an official wedding day hashtag.

You’ll be looking back on photos and videos for years to come, so you need to hire a quality cameraman. Some photographers are great at capturing candid photos, while others specialise in more traditional shoots. Ask to see their portfolio and choose wisely! Your friends will be capturing their favourite moments too so come up with a funny hashtag they can all use so you can see them all in place.

TIP: Use a hashtag generator to help you choose.

Plan what kind of ceremony you would like.

Talk through what kind of ceremony you would like. Whether you want fun or traditional you should pick one that reflects you both as a couple.

WEDDING CHECKLIST | 8-10 MONTHS OUT

Okay, so now the crucial, BIG things are out of the way, it’s time to relax, right? Don’t chill out just yet, there is still lots to decide on so don’t stop now!

Say YES to the dress!

This could be a moment you’ve been dreaming of since you were a little girl, or perhaps you’re going in totally blind; either way, grab your most trusted gals to help you decide on your dream dress.

Decide on your entertainment.

Live music, DJ, Jazz band, Opera Singer? Whatever your style, be sure to research and see them live so you know what to expect.

Book your bridal ride.

Whether a limo, vintage car or kombi van is your style; research and book to ensure you and your bridal party arrive in style. Remember your ride is a great addition to any wedding photos, so choose one that reflects you!

Book an appointment with your florist.

A good bouquet is worth its weight in gold. Your bouquet should tie in with any other decorative arrangements at the wedding to leave ample time to create a masterpiece that’ll showcase your style and add a bit of ambience to the event.

Lock your honeymoon plans in.

Trust us on this one, you’ll need a holiday after your big day. If all the wedding planning has you tied down, find a good travel agent to do the hard work for you. Wherever you go make sure you’ve got enough time to soak up the newlywed vibes.

WEDDING CHECKLIST | 6 MONTHS OUT

You’re halfway there!! This is the halfway mark and time will only continue to tick! It’s the moment to really start ticking things off your checklist.

Time to look and feel your best!

If you’re already an active kind of girl, then you might be intensifying your gym routine just that little bit more. If you’re new to this whole gym thing, decide on your goal for your big day. Whether you decide to join a gym, yoga class or simply walk each day – you will look and feel amazing!

Decided to DIY?

If you’ve decided to put your creative flair on your wedding day then it’s time to start making your invitations and putting together centrepieces. Get your bride tribe over for a weekly dinner catch up so you can cook and create at the same time! Who said DIY was boring?

wedding favours

Decide on wedding invitations and post away!

Whether you’re emailing them online, creating them by hand or using a stationary company, you’ll want to get the invites out asap.

Place your wedding cake order.

The best part about planning a wedding is all the cake testing. Make sure you research what kind of dessert you would like and order plenty of it so you don’t miss out. Haven’t got a sweet tooth? Opt for a cheese wheel cake instead.

Accessorise!

Now your dress has been chosen, it’s time to decide on what kind of accessories you will have for your big day. Whether it’s an added belt on your dress, jewellery or custom shoes; you’ll be well and truly sorted for your first dress fitting. If you’re wearing a veil, it’s best to have this before your hair and makeup trial so you can really get a feel for your whole look.

Glam up.

Research makeup artists and hairdressers so you can create a look that you love. Find the right one for you as you’ll want them to work with your style. Book in a hair and makeup trial so you can change anything before the big day.

Book your hotel for the lead-up and after the wedding.

Whether this is at the venue or accommodation nearby, book in advance to be sure you get the rooms you need for your bride tribe and for your wedding night.

Organise bridesmaid dresses and flower girl dresses.

Make sure you’ve found the dresses for your girls for your dreamy day. You’ll want to find a style and colour that suits each bridesmaid and flower girl. This also allows plenty of time to find accessories for them.

Buy your wedding rings.

It’s time to go shopping! You’ll want to pick something that sits perfectly against your engagement ring and reflects your style.

WEDDING CHECKLIST | 3 MONTHS OUT

We can (almost!) hear wedding bells, time to sort out the nitty-gritty deets!

Alteration.

It’s time to check that the dress fits perfectly, and if needed, there’s plenty of time for last minute adjustments.

Love mail.

Time to send, email or hand out your wedding invitations. Remember to include RSVP’s, maps, parking information, dress code, gift lists and any overnight accommodation options, which will be especially helpful for those travelling overseas and interstate. Be sure to double check and confirm dietary requirements too. It’s also a good idea to contact guests who haven’t RSVP’d a few weeks after so you can confirm numbers with the venue too.

Beauty Queen.

Speak to your beautician and look into booking regular facials. This will ensure your skin is looking it’s best in the lead-up and on your big day. Glow girl!

Gift list.

If you’ve decided to have a gift list, allow ample time to go and spend some time looking and registering what things you might need for your life as newlyweds. Whether it’s a new home you’re moving into and you’re in need of some apartment accessories or perhaps you’d like your guests to donate to a charity of your choice – set up a website so it makes including a link in your invites easier.

Get organised, girlfriend.

It’s time to plan your gifts for your bridal party, choose your wedding music, order/make wedding favours (fab bride tribe night in!) and complete any other last minute things you need to complete.

Did someone say girls night out?

If you like to be in charge you might be helping your Maid of Honour to organise your night out, alternatively, you might be leaving it up to her capable hands. Either way, it’s time to plan your party! Did someone say Martini’s?

Fun and champagne NEED to be on your wedding checklist.

WEDDING CHECKLIST | 1 MONTH OUT

So close, you’re on the home stretch now!

Time for one last alter!

Yes, the next time you put on this white dream dress it will be the big day! The dress should be perfect, or very close to! Bring your Mum, Sister and BFF to pop the champagne!

Confirm, confirm!

Confirm all your details with your venue, caterers, hired transport, honeymoon hotel etc. The last thing you want or need is for someone to misjudge the date or forget your big day. Make sure you confirm everything over the phone and in writing. You can thank us later.

Who sits where.

Time to finalise your seating plan, leave ample time to plan this as it can be a little tricky especially if you’ve got that crazy uncle, or over the top single friend.

Arrange the wedding rehearsal.

This is the perfect time to get the bridal party together before the wedding and to make sure any last minute adjustments and changes are taken care of.

Write away.

It’s that time where you can pour your heart out, and make a commitment to the person you love. Spend some time doing this and don’t leave it to the last minute. Practice makes perfect.

Find your ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’.

You get the drill.

WEDDING CHECKLIST | 1 WEEK OUT

This is the week to make sure everything is ready to go – but you also want to stay stress-free. The better organised you are, the more on top of everything you will feel.

Haircare and beauty babe.

Book a hair appointment to top up your colour or for a tiny trim. Say no to any last minute drastic changes. Ensure your skin is prepped, tanned, waxing/laser treatments done and your eyebrows are shaped to perfection.

Time for the wedding rehearsal.

All that planning and prep has come to this, and naturally, you’re organised and good to go thanks to this little checklist.

Holiday? Check.

Time to pack for your honeymoon. If you’re going somewhere tropical be sure to pack plenty of cute summer dresses and swimmers. Winter escape? Pack your best warm woollies. Don’t forget to print out all the required documents, passports etc. Leave a travel itinerary with a loved one too with all your hotel details etc, just in case.

TIP: Honeymoon inspo here

Wear-in your wedding shoes.

Don’t wear them out, obviously. Make your sparkling high heels your new indoor shoes. This will ensure you’re comfortable for the big day and also looking super glam while walking around the house.

Supplier details.

If you’ve organised a wedding planner, ensure they have the final updated contact list of all suppliers and important contacts. If not, allocate this job to someone you trust in case they need to be contacted on the day.

WEDDING CHECKLIST | 1 DAY OUT

The day before you say I do …. Eeek!

Relax…

It’s the day before your big day, take time to get a manicure and pedicure organised ( book this in the day before so you don’t have any chips!!) and also a day to chill out. You deserve it.

relax
Make sure essential oils are added to your wedding checklist, they’ll keep you calm!

Eat a light meal and have a good night’s rest.

You don’t want to feel sick in the morning and you’ll be up early for hair and makeup – you’re getting married in a few hours! We recommend using some essential oils and taking a bath to ensure a good night’s rest.

TIP: Watch a classic wedding movie the night before with your nearest and dearest.

Enjoy babe and have the BEST DAY EVER!

Have we missed anything? What would you add to your wedding checklist?
