Pros & Cons Of The Cooler Months

Is winter really already here?

I know I’m a few weeks early, but when you live in Australia, particularly Sydney, the weather is like a girl at you know what time of the month…temperamental. So yes, although winter doesn’t technically start until June, Sydney’s been getting a little chilly these past few weeks, which has made me stop and think about the winter season and all its glorious and not so glorious offerings.

So without further ado, below are both the pros and cons of the cooler months. I have no doubt that some or all of these will resonate with you, and either get you super excited for June to be here, or counting down the days ‘til Summer.

Pros:

Cocoa by the fire…

I know I know, such an American term (all we’re missing is the Christmas tree), but who doesn’t love sitting in front of a fire place or electric heater, drinking hot chocolate or a tea, and just being snug as a bug in a rug? It’s honestly the best and I cannot wait.

 Wearing your winter wardrobe…

You can now finally wear all those clothes you bought on sale at the end of last winter, and have waited a whole year to wear. Plus I just think winter fashion is really cute and gives people a chance to really show off their style!

Snuggling your lover…

This one’s for all those couples out there who cry every night in summer because it’s too hot to snuggle up to one another. Don’t worry love birds, this season’s for you! Snuggle, cuddle and spoon away, because you’re going to need all the extra body heat you can get!

Using your bed covers…

Winter is the season that reminds us that we actually have doonas and quilt covers on our bed for practical reasons rather than just to look pretty. You’ll end up adding another 50 more layers to whatever existed prior to winter, and that’s just the way it goes.

Wearing pj’s to bed…

You actually get to wear your pyjamas into bed, rather than having them as just you’re “at home” outfit. You’ll tuck your pants into your fluffy ass socks, and then you’ll tuck your top into your pants and some nights, your dressing gown may even go to bed with you. Hey, I’m not complaining.

You can always add more layers…

Unlike summer where there is only so much you can do to keep cool and we can’t exactly walk around in our birthday suits now can we? However in winter, you can just keep adding layers, drinking hot drinks, using a hot water bottle or sit in front of the fire, and get to a nice toasty heat that’s just right.

Cons:

Getting out of bed…

Getting out of bed is hard at the best of times, let alone when it’s -50 degrees and even putting your hand outside the covers feels like you’ve just grabbed a hand full of snow. This is definitely a huge downside of winter.

No more morning showers…

What’s that? You shower in the mornings? Yeah you can say goodbye to that. Soon as winter hits you won’t have another morning shower until September. In saying that, just getting out of the shower in winter, even at night is always terrifying and something you really have to prepare yourself for.

Doing the washing…

So this one doesn’t apply to those of you who are lucky enough to own and/or can afford a dryer all year round. For the rest of us peasants, working around the winter weather of thunderstorms and rain can mean the difference between washing that dirty outfit you want to wear tomorrow, or having to find another one. Talk about an inconvenience, thanks winter.

Beach days are a thing of the past…

Unless you’re one of those freaks of nature who still insists on going swimming in the ocean when the water temperature is freezing, then sorry beach babes, this is your off season.

You lose your natural tan…

You’ve worked so hard all those months of spring and summer to build a natural tan and then it all just comes crashing down, and you just have to accept the fact that Casper is back for the winter. Of course you always have the option of fake tanning which so many gals already do all year round, but if you like to rock a natural tan in summer, then you either have to fake it ‘til you make it in the winter, or rock that pasty look girl!

It’s just f@*kin’ cold…

Plain and simple. It’s just f’ing cold.
