SPOTLIGHT ON: Bettina Banks

We chat with the MKR star...

Strikingly beautiful, ridiculously talented and wickedly funny; Bettina (or Betty) is as cool they come. You may recognise her from this years MKR, Betty wowed the judges week after week with her array of yummy dishes and immense charm.

Fit AF, glowing skin and boasting a collection of tattoos Ruby Rose would be jealous of; Bettina’s head-turning look isn’t one you see every day  – which is exactly why we love her.

Rocking some Showpo threads!

You may have seen Betty popping up in our feed for quite some time now, so we thought it high time we got her to answer some quick questions so you can get to know her a bit better.

What was the MKR experience actually like!?

CRAZY! It was like being on a rollercoaster ride, so many ups and downs. It was tiring, but such a fun and beautiful experience. I wouldn’t trade it for the world! There’s nothing like it.

Walk me through a day on set?

Early morning wake-up calls, doing your own hair and makeup while you’re half asleep. Hours of filming, being on your feet for what felt like forever, running around like a headless chook, and loads of cooking, cooking, cooking!

What’s the biggest misconception about MKR and/or TV in general?

The time we cook on MKR is all real! The pressure, challenges – all real! ? No pre-cooked items at all!

Did you watch the eps? Who with and was it awks/hilarious watching yourself?

I watched as many eps as I could. It was so awkward at times, but I learnt to just laugh at it and own it!

When did you first fall in love with cooking?

When I was a little girl, probably about 8 or 9. I would be helping mum in the kitchen when I fell in love with cooking. It always starts off with eating and tasting mums food!

Your last meal, what would it be?

Ohh the hardest question but the easiest – Mum’s cooking, ice-cream, chocolate cake, and a glass of cognac ?

Favourite thing to cook?

I specialise in authentic South East Asian cuisine, I love making Pho, steamed fish, stir-fried noodles and raw beef salads but I actually love cooking French food also! Beef Ragu is one of my favourites to cook!

I’d be super fat if I could cook as well as you do, what are your tips and tricks for staying fit while being around such delish food?

Work out as much as you can! It sounds so hard but you need to just keep fit. I’m so lucky to be a part of such a fit community down at Fitness Studio Canley Heights, which I’m also an ambassador for. These guys are my inspo! My boyfriend is also a fitness freak, he keeps me well motivated as well!

Apart from cooking, what are your fave things to do?

Eating, travelling and spending time with loved ones ?

Best bar in Sydney?

I love Hacienda Sydney cocktail bar at the moment!

Must-have beauty product/s?

Tinted lip balm, concealer, eyebrow pomade, mascara and moisturiser!

The one item every gal needs in her wardrobe?

Jeans or a beautiful big coat!
