It appears that we can’t go a month without something blowing up in the beauty community. Last month there was the whole James Charles drama, and the month before that Jeffree Star – but the lady in the limelight today is OG beauty YouTuber Jaclyn Hill, and boy has she landed in boiling tea.
Basically, Jaclyn launched a collection of nude lipsticks on May 30th and almost IMMEDIATELY, customers took to social media to express disappointment over various manufacturing flaws, ranging from broken or melted lipsticks to bullets containing what appeared to be hair. 🤢
According to a bunch of peeps on Twitter and YT, some lipsticks contained bits of (what looks like) hair, while others said that their product was damaged, with visible bubbles and holes in the lipstick. Now while SOME customers have had no issues with their lipsticks, online criticism of the collection does seem to have grown, with more customers and influencers coming forward with their shitty experiences.
Jaclyn has been responding to the claims on Twitter, saying that the ‘hairs’ people have been finding are fibres from the gloves worn by her quality control team…🤔 Which sounds a bit silly but ok.
“If any of you are receiving lipsticks like this…. please know that this is NOT hair!” she wrote. “My factory used brand new white gloves to do quality control & they shed all over my product! We switched to rubber gloves 2 days ago & will make sure this never happens again.”
She continued – “My team and I are working very hard on finding out EXACTLY what is causing the “grittiness & bumpy texture” on some of my lipsticks. I am so sorry to see some of you dissatisfied with my product. I will make it right for you & learn from this mistake! That’s a promise.”
However, many fans and YT sleuths are not buying the ‘glove fibre’ explanation, with many claiming the ‘hairs’ are actually spores from fungi or bacterial growths. Gross, I know.
If you want a more in-depth explanation of the drama, I suggest you watch this vid. With almost 2.5m views, it’s a really unbiased look into the claims.
