I know, I know; many of you get extremely perplexed at the idea of cleaning your skin with oil cos’ like, isn’t that one of the things you’re trying to get OFF your skin!? Yes, which is why cleansing oils are actually so darn effective.
You see, a good cleansing oil will get rid of all the dirt, makeup, excess oil and bacteria from your skin, without stripping the good oils (which keep it smooth and supple).
WHAT THE DEVIL IS A CLEANSING OIL?
An oil-based cleanser 😛
The theory behind a cleansing oil is that they remove bad excess oil (plus all the gross stuff on your face, like bacteria and old makeup) because they have similar chemical properties as oil the skin produces, which allow them to interact. This is unlike washing with water, which only separates from oil, doing a shoddy cleansing job in turn.
WHO SHOULD USE A CLEANSING OIL?
Anyone. They are so universal but particularly beneficial for those with dry or sensitive skin as so many more traditional cleansers will disagree with the structure of your skin and potentially create issues.
But seriously, anyone is a good candidate for cleansing oils, even those who have super oily skin! Why you ask? Well, the biggest misconception is that oily skin types shouldn’t use oil. Oil is actually the most effective ingredients at removing excess oil and heaps of popular products on the market actually strip your skin of natural oils too, which makes your skin create MORE oil in an effort to protect the skin.
HOW DO YOU USE CLEANSING OILS?
Like any other cleanser! You can use on damp or dry skin however you obviously need less product if your skin is at least a bit damp.
- Work 1-2 pumps into your skin, rubbing in circular motion to lift everything from your pores.
- Be gentle around your eye area but the great thing about cleansing oils is that they remove hectic eye-makeup easily AND they are super gentle on the area.
- Rinse your face and pat dry.
If necessary, repeat, but you really shouldn’t need to, lest you’ve got bloody stage makeup on or the like.
